It is a practical default for users serving the eastern United States, nearby Canadian metros, and applications that need acceptable transatlantic reach into Western Europe. The region fits API backends, web applications, VPN gateways, small databases, and latency-sensitive services that benefit from East Coast routing without pretending every workload sees the same network path.
